Description:
The family run department store, Hills of Spalding competed against a number of other companies to win the contract for a café facility at the new Johnson Community Hospital.
By offering locally sourced and freshly prepared food to staff, visitors and patients, they were selected as the preferred operator for the cafe by NHS Lincolnshire.
Seasonal food from the South Holland and Lincolnshire area will be used to produce an impressive choice of dishes from the café located just inside the main entrance when the hospital opens its doors to patients on 1 June 2009.
A varied choice of hot and cold food will be sold including; satisfying jacket potatoes with a range of fillings, soup of the day, paninis, freshly prepared sandwiches with a choice of fillings, home made cakes and scones and fairtrade coffee.
Simon Temple, Hospital Matron said that it was important to have locally sourced produce on sale as a way to support local producers, suppliers and the community.
"Hills of Spalding won the contract due to the range of food they were able to offer our visitors and staff."
"We want to make everyone's visit the hospital as relaxed as possible, this includes patients, visitors and staff. Providing good quality produce which helps to support the community is just one of the ways we hope to achieve this," he added.
Darryl Simpson, Managing Director of Hills said: "Bidding for the contract at the new Johnson Community Hospital was a great opportunity to expand the Riverview Cafe inside the Hills store. The cafe will be open Monday - Friday between 9 - 4pm in addition to the vending machines selling our food opposite outpatients and in the Welland ward area."
"We are celebrating 50 years of business since opening and are proud to be part of the new hospital," he added.
