Description:
Police are warning motorists to think more careully about security after a spate of thefts from cars in Spalding.Four vehicles were broken into between July 3 and 9, and sector inspector for Spalding Police, Inspector Paul Timmins is urging everyone to be vigilant in a bid to deter criminals.
He said: "People can make a big difference to the chances of their vehicles being targeted by criminals by taking a few basic precautions.
"A number of thefts recently have been from unlocked cars, and this just makes the offender's job very easy.
"Always ensure that vehicles are locked and that valuable items are removed, and not just put out of sight.
"Thieves know where to look and it doesn't take them long to thoroughly search a vehicle to check if there is anything worth stealing".
The first crime was on July 3 when a Triumph Herald car in Commercial Road, Spalding, was entered between 10am and 10.30am and a quantity of cash stolen from a wallet inside the vehicle.
On July 4, a black Suzuki motorcycle, parked in the Sheepmarket, Spalding, had its tax disc stolen sometime between 1.30pm and 2.30pm.
Sometime overnight between July 6 and 7, a grey Renault saloon car parked in John Harrison Way, Holbeach, had its driver's side window smashed and a sat nav and video player stolen.
Two vehicles were entered on Jubilee Close, Spalding, some time overnight between 11pm on Wednesday, July 8,and 6.45am on Thursday, July 9. A green Citroen Picasso and a Ford minibus were searched and items including a sat nav, CDs and a diesel card were stolen.
Inspector Timmins said: "Being security conscious at all times and keeping temptation out of the criminal's way will help to lessen the chances of you becoming a victim of vehicle crime".
