South Holland bus driver is the best!

South Holland has the best school bus driver - and that's official!

Thanks to a nomination by pupils from Long Sutton the Peele School, Stephen Eaton of W H Fowler and Sons Travel - based at Holbeach Drove - took first prize in the Driver of the Year awards bus category.

The district also featured in the two other categories.

Fred Fletcher, driver for Phil Haines Coaches, was nominated by pupils from Spalding the Priory and was a runner-up in the minibus category. 

Bill Wood and Helen Sibson of Spalding's Smart Cabs were also runners-up in the taxi driver's category, following nominations by children from Bourne Willoughby School and Spalding St Paul's Primary School respectively.

Cllr William Webb, Executive Member for Highways and Traffic, who presented the prizes at county offices, said: "These awards, and their popularity with our schools, illustrate how fortunate Lincolnshire is to have so many tremendously careful and skilled drivers.  Home-to-school transport is of course a huge responsibility and it is therefore so important to recognise that we have drivers who are among the best in the business."

The award were organised by Lincolnshire County Council as part of their Max Respect project which aims to improve to promote good behaviour on home to school transport and recognise the importance of the drivers.  Drivers had to undergo a theory and practical test to determine the winners of each category.

Stephen received a plaque and certificate, a £50 voucher of his choice and a VIP day at RAF Cranwell, donated by RAF Cranwell.  Runners-up received a commemorative plaque and certificate.
