South Holland artists' work on display at new Spalding hospital

As a way to further enhance the look and feel of the hospital, local artists were asked to submit artwork to be exhibited for the enjoyment of patients, staff and visitors.

Judging of submissions took place last month and nineteen pieces were chosen. Photographs, watercolour paintings, prints and a mosaic are amongst the pieces which have brightened the hospital and helped create a relaxed and comfortable environment.
 

The new artwork complements the existing woodland, coastal, sky, farmland and Welland themes which help to identify different areas of the building.

Simon Temple, hospital matron said: "Thank you to everyone who submitted their work to the hospital. We were overwhelmed with the response and judging was difficult. A significant number of submissions came from the deafblind charity, Sense, from which seven successful images were selected for display."

Tracy Dunlop runs photography groups for deafblind students at Sense s Glenside Resource Centre.

She said: "Sense and the deafblind students are so thrilled that the pictures have been chosen to be showcased at the hospital. Photography allows the students to set free their imagination through the camera lens and explore different textures. The results are truly beautiful and really show the wider community what deafblind people can achieve. "

Local MP John Hayes admired the new additions when he recently visited the Johnson Hospital. The visit incorporated a tour of the new building and a special viewing of all the artwork which was submitted from the community.
