Description:
Spalding library will soon benefit from some exciting improvements, which include new carpet, a new modern layout and the introduction of convenient self-service technology.
To compliment these improvements, the large staff counter will be removed. This will make staff more visible and will create more space for books. More new books will also be added to the shelves.
In order to achieve these improvements the library will be temporarily closed from October 12 until November 16. The improvements will be carried out in three phases to minimise the disruption to customers. The library will therefore only be fully closed for seven days in total, the rest of the time it will remain partially open.
Cllr Eddy Poll, Executive Member for Cultural Services said: "One of the most noticeable improvements at Spalding Library will be the introduction of self service technology."
"This ensures that book borrowing is quick and easy, which will not only save customers time but will also enable staff to spend more time with customers who need extra help."
"This new technology is very user friendly, and feedback from other libraries in the county has shown that people find it incredibly easy to use."
Spalding Library will be improved over three phases:
- Phase One: 12th & 13th October 2009
The library will be fully closed. Staff will be present in the foyer during normal library hours to take returned items, and to advise you about other libraries in the area, online and via our Customer Service Centre.
- Phase Two: 14th October to 9th November
For this phase the library will be partly open during its normal opening hours. From the first floor visitors will be able to access reference and local studies and lending materials and 9 internet access computers. You will be able to borrow a selection of books, a limited range of DVDs and books on tape. Local studies material will include Directories, newspapers on microfilm and basic histories of Spalding and surrounding area. Normal opening hours will apply
- Phase Three: 10th November to 14th November
The library will be fully closed. Staff will be present in the foyer during normal library opening hours to take returned items, and to advise you about other libraries in the area, online and via our Customer Service Centre. Additionally, the opening hours at Pinchbeck Library will be extended.
The newly refurbished library will reopen on Monday, November 16.
