Views wanted on Spalding's future

03 December 2008

Description:

Spalding people are being asked to tell South Holland District Council what is important to them.

The consultation exercise will help the council focus on its priorities for the next few years and is centred around the themes of health, economic development, environment, communities, transport and accessibility.

Council officers are aiming to meet as many groups as possible. So far they have met with older peoples' organisations, South Holland Youth Council and migrant workers and residents of the more remote rural areas.

In addition young people's views have been collected through visits to secondary and primary schools and discussion groups.

Councillor Nick Worth, deputy leader of the council and chairman of the Rural Action Zone, said: "The consultation exercise is incredibly valuable to us as we want to know what is important to the people of South Holland.

"It will help us prioritise our finances against the community's priorities.

"Having been out in my own community with those carrying out the consultation exercise, there are clearly a range of issues, many of which people have a positive reaction to. We will be listening to them and taking them into account."

Officers will be visiting other areas and groups, including those representing people with disabilities and other migrant workers.

In addition the council particularly want the views of people of working age.

They are asking people to spend a few minutes completing a questionnaire on the council's website and will also be asking people in the street their views.

Officers will be working on the result of the consultation over the next few weeks and a summary will help with decision making and the updating of the Community Plan for South Holland.
