Description:
A new manager has been appointed to drive forward the future of Spalding Flower Parade.Former parade organiser David Norton has promised to use his past experience of the event to ensure an exciting and dynamic future for Spalding's famous parade.
Last month, Lincolnshire County Council revealed the 50-year-old show had been saved, following meetings between Executive Councillor Eddy Poll and organisations including South Holland District Council.
David's new role will involve making the occasion sustainable and maximising benefits to visitors and residents.
David was the parade’s organiser between 2000 and 2007, before the Spalding Flower Parade and Carnival Trust took over and David moved his talents to organising the World Tulip Summit.
He is also the Chief Executive of the Springfields Horticultural Society, a registered charity responsible for maintaining the gardens at the Springfields Outlet Shopping & Festival Gardens development in Spalding.
David said:“I am thrilled that the show is back in its rightful place on Lincolnshire’s calendar thanks to the county council, local MP and other interested parties, and am looking forward to being closely involved.
"Part of my role will be to engage with the Trust, the county council, South Holland District Council and other key partners to ensure the events we put on meet everyone’s expectations and provide the spectacle that people have traditionally come to Spalding to see on this May bank holiday weekend."
