Description:
Two new health trainers have been recruited to help the residents of Spalding and South Holland to get in shape and keep fit.Alison Woodcock (on the right in the picture) and Chloe Hayter-Jones (on the left) are currently undergoing training to become accredited health trainers under a scheme being run by Lincolnshire NHS.
They will be based at South Holland District Council in Spalding and are expected to start work in the community in April.
Once once they are fully accredited they will be able to do personal health planning with clients, which will involve working with residents to develop a personal health plan and provide support and advice to enable individuals to make gradual health and lifestyle changes that will last a lifetime.
Ria Harkess, health trainer programme manager for NHS Lincolnshire, said: "This programme helps people to make the first steps towards being healthier and living longer.
"Offering one to one support, suggesting small steps and manageable goals and teaching coping skills is an effective way to work with individuals to make positive lifestyle changes."
In addition, the trainers have extensive knowledge of specialist NHS and other support services which can offer further help.
Funded by NHS Lincolnshire, the service is provided by people who already understand how hard it is to stop smoking, cut down on alcohol, eat more healthily and be more active.
Individuals are offered six dedicated sessions to meet with their health trainer. These can range from face to face sessions, a phone call or to accompany you to a new appointment or activity.
In total, twenty six specialist health trainers are located in target areas across Lincolnshire where people may be struggling to become healthier.
