Description:
Spalding's first-ever flower festival, which replaces the flower parade, will finish off with an evening of illuminations and fireworks.Coach-loads of visitors are already booked to visit Spalding's Springfields Event Centre and Festival Gardens for the weekend of May 2 to 4 to enjoy the brightest and best of what the town has to offer.
The flower festival has been organised by Spalding Flower Parade and Carnival Trust and will include many of the attractions which have wowed visitors to South Holland in previous years, such as tulip-covered structures, marching bands and children's activities.
This year Springfields' new illuminated fountains, which were installed as part of a half a million upgrade to the centre, will be a focal point for the finale, which will be held on Monday, May 4, and also include entertainment and a spectacular fireworks display.
There will also be flower displays by RHS Gold Medal winning exhibitors, a church flower display marquee and exhibits by the National Association of Flower Arranging Societies.
The Trust has also arranged for a family circus to be on site as well as participation by Long Sutton Butterfly and Wildlife Park, local flower importers and nurseries and it's all free to ticket holders.
Children from local schools will also be taking part in a number of competitions including a Scarecrow Competition, Design a Fairy Garden Competition as well as entertaining the crowds with everything from a junk band to a choir.
The Event Centre will be open from 9am till 6pm on Saturday and Sunday and on Monday from 9am till 5pm and again from 7pm till 10:30pm with the fireworks at 9:30pm.
Tickets for the event will be a modest £7.00 per day for adults, £6.00 for concessions and £3.50 for school age children (five to 16 years old).
Monday's ticket will include the evening festivities although an evening only ticket will be available at just £5.00 (half price for children).
