Description:
Spalding and South Holland motorists are being warned to take extra care on Lincolnshire's roads as ice and snow continue to make conditions treacherous.Lincolnshire County Council has warned that temperatures tonight (Friday, February 6) could drop below -8C, at which gritting becomes less effective.
Despite this, the county's Highways team has reassured drivers that salting of main routes will remain a priority and gritters will be out in force again following today's snowfall, spreading salt in an effort to improve safety.
Greville Burgess, from Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership, had some advice for motorists who have to travel.
He said: "Take time to properly clear your entire windscreen, drive slower, keep your distance from the vehicle in front and make sure your vehicle is in good condition."
Darrell Redford, Lincolnshire County Council highways engineer, added: "We have had an exceptional last five days of bad weather and although we have sufficient salt stocks in Lincolnshire to deal with the weather presently being experienced, we are still looking at the long-term weather forecasts and will be monitoring weather conditions and salt stocks to determine when it may be possible to treat the secondary routes as well as our main priority of the major routes.
"Our stocks are holding up compared to other authorities at the moment - we are liaising through the Lincolnshire Resilience Forum to get a full regional perspective."
