Description:
Keen walkers, boaters, anglers and horseriders in Spalding can find out more and have their say about the plans for the next phase of the Fens Waterway Link at workshops to be held at the South Holland Centre.
The project is aimed at improving access and facilities along the region's waterways and with the successful completion of phase one, Lincolnshire Waterways Partnership is now turning its attention to phase two between Boston and Spalding.
Mary Powell, tourism development officer, said: "Creating the ambitious Fens Waterways Link will allow more people to explore and use this wonderful area of Lincolnshire by boat, on foot, bicycle or horseback.
"Thirty kilometres of the South Forty Foot Drain will also be re-opened to navigation for the first time in a generation.
"Now we invite people to contribute to and hear about the design of phase two between Boston and Spalding during public workshops at the South Holland Centre in Spalding on February 26.
"This will give everyone with an interest a chance to ask questions and to put forward their views and suggestions.
"As we haven't yet finalised the exact line of the route there will be lots to discuss; hopes, concerns, opportunities and constraints."
Two free workshops will be held on the day, between 10am and 1pm and from 6pm until 9pm with buffets provided at 1pm and 5.30pm. Places are limited, particularly on the morning session and booking is therefore essential by calling 01522 782332 or e-mailing alice.wood@lincolnshire.gov.uk
Lincolnshire is the first to develop a countywide strategy for waterways regeneration and the county's Waterways Partnership consists of Lincolnshire County Council, the Environment Agency and British Waterways.
In its first five years, it has provided bridges, paths, moorings, locks and nature reserves and is now busy planning its next five-year programme.
