Long Sutton nurses win top honour

Long Sutton district nursing team have been honoured at an awards ceremony after " doing far more than anyone could have expected" for an elderly patient with a very rare disease.

The caring professionals won a Care, Courtesy and Kindness Award, which were set up to recognise NHS staff who provide exceptional service to patients.

Their 65-year-old patient, who was diagnosed with the extremely rare disease, actinomycosis, said: "The district nurses read up and comforted me every step of the way, that brought us great comfort. They are truly kind, caring dedicated people."

NHS Lincolnshire launched a public campaign in September 2008 to encourage patients, carers and relatives to nominate a health worker; team or service they believe deserve recognition for particularly demonstrating courtesy, kindness, dignity and respect through all aspects of their NHS work.

Commenting on the win, managing director of Lincolnshire Community Health Services, Ellen Smith, said: "Long Sutton District Nursing team showed excellent commitment and support during their care in the community.

"My congratulations go out to the team and to all employees who received nominations."

Edie Butterworth, director of quality and involvement for NHS Lincolnshire said "All those nominated for this award are winners in their own right. The have all demonstrated that they are role models for delivering an outstanding service to patients and provide an excellent example of how we would like all staff to work."

More than 100 nominations were received for the awards and other winners were:

• Oral Surgery Team at Pilgrim Hospital, United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust (ULHT)

• The Crisis Team at Grantham Sycamore Unit, Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LPFT)
