Description:
South Holland District Council has warned residents in the Spalding area that their recycling will not be collected if they do not sort materials properly. The council has said that it will be monitoring recycling collections more closely because some residents of South Holland have been "seriously mis-using" the service by including materials not fit for recycling in the green sacks.
This "contamination" means green sacks will not be accepted by the council's recycling processors and could end up in landfill - costing the council and ultimately the taxpayer money.
Some of the "contaminates" recently found in recycling collections include:
Blankets
Pillows
Toys
Handbags
Nappies
Pet bedding
Electric Cabling
Paddling pools
Electrical items
The council said that some of these items put the health and safety of recycling workers at risk.
Residents are also be reminded of changes to collections during Easter and May Bank Holidays.
