Description:
People living in Spalding and villages in South Holland are being urged to make their neighbourhoods cleaner and greener by taking part in an initiative to get rid of litter. The new countwide initiative means villages and towns will be able to apply to their local council for bags to help them collect rubbish on their roads and green spaces.
The waste will then be picked up by the council and transported to disposal sites, with the cost of its disposal paid for by the county council.
The new community litter-pick is a scheme by the Lincolnshire Waste Partnership, which consists of Lincolnshire's seven district, city and borough councils, the county council and the Environment Agency.
It is being introduced in a bid to make Lincolnshire's communities even cleaner and healthier places to be.
Cllr Lewis Strange, Chairman of the Lincolnshire Waste Partnership, said: "It's always a sad sight, both to residents and for tourists to our county, to see assorted litter in our villages.
"The community litter-pick scheme will play a huge role in supporting residents to collect waste from their streets and green spaces by the supply of bags, collection and transportation to a waste site by their local authority.
"This will bolster the existing community-cleaning work the districts, borough and city council already undertake.
"The costs of disposing of the waste will then be paid for by the county council, so we encourage as many villages as possible to get involved and together we can have better-looking, healthier environments making Lincolnshire a cleaner, greener place to live in."
Community representatives interested in finding out more and arranging bag deliveries and collections can contact South Holland District Council on 01775 761161.
